Kalgoorlie campers help bolster tourism numbers

In Western Australia

The Goldfields Tourism Network says Kalgoorlie-Boulder is continuing to show positive tourist numbers during peak season.

Australian Bureau of Statistics’ data shows Kalgoorlie-Boulder had the second highest room occupancy levels of regional towns across Western Australia, with 76 per cent.

Goldfields Tourism’s Arianne Web says while the numbers coming in for the mining industry are significant, it is not the core market.

“Our primary market for the tourism in the Goldfields is really the caravan and camping market,” she said.

“So we would love to see every new hotel bring new visitors to the town but really with our strong emphasis on the caravan market we need to focus on targeting those sort of people because they are the people coming to town.”
