Lansdowne Hotel fire deliberately lit in disagreement

In New South Wales

A woman has been charged with deliberately setting fire to an historic inner Sydney hotel, with police alleging the blaze was lit following a dispute with other tenants.

Emergency services were called to the Lansdowne Hotel, in Chippendale, shortly before 8am on Friday, where they found the third floor alight.

Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze.

Following an investigation by local detectives, a 23-year-old woman was arrested on Monday and charged with damaging property by fire, and threatening to destroy or damage another person’s property.

Police allege the fire was the result of a dispute between a number of people living in the hotel.

The woman was granted conditional bail to face Downing Centre Local Court on February 6.
