Woman ‘abducted at knifepoint, forced to use cannabis and raped’ at Devonport caravan park

A man has been charged after allegedly abducting a woman at knifepoint and forcing her to use cannabis before raping her at a caravan park in northwest Tasmania.

Heath Lance Chatters, 40, appeared at Devonport Magistrates Court on Monday charged with armed robbery, forcible abduction, administering a drug with intent to commit a crime and rape.

Court papers allege he confronted a service station attendant aged in her 20s with a 150mm-bladed knife on Friday night.

He is accused of kidnapping the woman and taking her to a Devonport caravan park where he forced her to use cannabis before raping her.

Chatters, from Burnie, was also charged with a range of other burglary, stealing, and computer-related fraud offences in the week prior to the alleged rape.

Chatters did not enter pleas to any of the charges and was remanded in custody to return to court next month.
