Peninsula Link via Frankston opens for tourists and commuters

In National Headlines, Victoria

From Casey Weekly, Cranbourne

IT was an exciting time for motorists as Peninsula Link opened to traffic during the early hours of Friday morning, the first car rolling over the freshly laid asphalt at 5am.

There was a buzz of anticipation in the air as people tested the freeway and timed their trips to work.

The new route is expected to cut up to 40 minutes from a standard trip during peak periods and increase tourism to Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula.

Photographer Gary Sissons was there to capture the historic moment – and some spectacular light shows.
