Wotton Skate Park redevelopment

The construction of the new Wotton Skate Park has begun and will feature WA’s biggest half-pipe with additional roll-ins coming in from above the main platform, and the existing ramp will also be upgraded.

City of Bayswater mayor Filomena Piffaretti said “The skate community told us they loved the current skate park, so the new design retains its original flow and skate elements that they know and love, with a few enhancements.

“The new facility includes a mix of intermediate and advanced jumps, plus we’ve added some new elements to cater for beginners through to advanced skaters and BMX riders.”

Skate, scooter and BMX fans can rejoice as construction of the new Wotton Skate Park, which will feature WA’s biggest half-pipe, has begun.

The popular community facility — currently based at Wotton Reserve in Embleton — will be relocated to the reserve’s eastern side to make way for the future Morley train station multi-storey carpark.

The new skate and BMX facility will feature WA’s biggest half-pipe — a 3.3 metre-high and 13.5 metre-wide vert ramp — with additional roll-ins coming in from above the main platform, and the existing ramp will also be upgraded.

Additional tree planting will provide shade, and two shade structures and seated hangout areas have been added to the design.

To make the facility more accessible for families and users, a pathway around the perimeter of the skate park connecting to the barbecue picnic area is also planned for the redevelopment. It will also feature complementary community facilities including floodlighting, a bike repair station, electric barbecue, bike racks and a drink fountain.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said Morley station was a once-in-a-generation project that was going to provide important public transport links for the community for years to come.

“Morley station, once complete, will give passengers a seamless 15-minute train ride from Perth CBD and just a three-minute journey to Bayswater station,” she said.

“We know the current skate park is popular at Wotton Reserve, which is why we are partnering with the City of Bayswater with $2.5 million State Government funding to see a brand new skate and BMX facility built within the eastern section of the reserve.”

City of Bayswater mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the city was looking forward to delivering the brand-new facility for the skate and BMX community.

“We engaged extensively with the community, reserve users and the city’s skate and bike development advisory committee last year to find out the best location and preferred layout of the new skate park,” she said.

“The skate community told us they loved the current skate park, so the new design retains its original flow and skate elements that they know and love, with a few enhancements.

The city has $2.5 million included in its 2021-22 budget for the skate and BMX facility redevelopment with $131,000 already spent on preliminary engagement, concept design, reticulation modifications and floodlight relocation.

The new skate and BMX facility is scheduled to be completed in August and will be finished prior to the current facility closing.
